Junior Club News update Feb 2016
General information, progress and activities.
The Junior Club has had a very good year in 2015.
As a result of regular training throughout 2015 we have two members who usually win their respective Primary School cross country races , Ella Stadden and Mackenzie O'Dea.
Older runners have done well in School and County Cross Country events including Charlotte Fogwill, Ellie Romans, Connie Little. Holly Bigger and Innes Davidson represented the County at the recent SW regional championship. Holly has now been selected to run in the National Schools Championship in March for Junior Girls. Innes is 1st reserve Junior Boys.
Our monthly, free to enter, Run for Fun on North Moor, Langport, is open to all boys and girls ages 4 to 14, with a choice of 2k,1k and even 400m events, has continued through 2015 into 2016 and despite the recent bad weather attracts between 20 to 30 runners from most of our local schools. Nearly 100 young runners have taken part.
Older Juniors regularly run in the Yeovil Montacute 5k parkrun, the Street 5k and Yeovilton 5k road races and our own Club 10k summer monthly medal series.
Eleven awards have been made for 2015. Details can be found elsewhere.
For the continued success of our Junior Club we thank Pete Jones as our Senior Coach for his continued commitment over the year, Julian Cramp for joining our Junior coaching team, many Club Members and parents who are a vital help during our training sessions.
2016 promises to be even better with a number of keen youngsters joining us recently. Enquiries about membership are invited.
